January 2007 *** Happy New Year

Grace & Emily give Splash a big Happy New Years kiss!

Welcome Wildwych Valkyrie!!

Wildwych Valkyrie joined the herd at Free Rayn Hill on November 27th. She was made available to us on lease through the generosity of Mary Prewitt of Wildwych Connemaras. Mary knows how much we love the "*Rocky line" and now we are fortunate to have a Rocky daughter and two granddaughters.

Valkyrie is a full sister to our Splash (*Glenormiston Flurry Knox  x  Hideaway's Irish  Mist). She was born in 2003 and is a wonderful example of Connemara type and temperament. She is a rosy grey in color  and stands close to 14.2 hands tall. She is a bit shy (demonstrated by this photo of her doing her camouflage pony routine) , but perfectly well behaved, and rapidly settling in to life on the hill. She has been a great buddy and big sister to Splash when Splash was weaned at the end of December.

Valkyrie will be bred in the Spring of 2007 and we are still looking for just the right "suitor" for her maiden breeding. The resulting foal will be the first "grandchild" from the very successful Flurry x Mist cross and will be available for purchase in late 2008.

Mist becomes a "Working Mom"

Once little Splash was weaned, I was very anxious to ride my Mist. We had our first lesson with the girl's trainer Stormy May on New Year's Eve and it was a huge success. Mist was a bit worried about the new place and the concept of trailering away from home - but she came through like a champ. I am amazed by the continued connection I have with this mare. She was very willing to work, tried everything we asked her to do, and we had a fun time in the process. She has a wonderful mind and I'm looking forward to the year ahead.

Pony Symposium - February 2007

The WPCAC is holding their annual meeting on February 9-11 in Stockton, CA. They have expanded this event to a full fledged Pony Symposium with a great line up of speakers, lectures, and social opportunities. Detailed information is available on the WPCAC website - www.wpcac.com.

We are looking forward to the Mountain and Moorland pony discussions that will be lead by Mr. and Mrs. Len Bigley from Wales. I will be leading a short discussion on the proposal for a 2008 West Coast All Pony Show.
